BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is to visit the Texas-Mexico border to discuss cooperation with Mexico's domestic security chief before proceeding to meetings in Mexico City.

Napolitano's visit Tuesday includes meetings in Matamoros, Mexico, with Mexican Interior Secretary Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and local law enforcement.
It comes as Republicans in the U.S. House demand increased border security and fight a path to citizenship for 11 million people who have already entered the country illegally.
In Matamoros, Napolitano will visit the historic home base of the Gulf cartel, one of several groups operating in a state plagued by organized crime and violence. Napolitano also is expected to address Homeland Security employees at a port of entry in Brownsville before flying on to Mexico City.
